About Bozeman Electricians

Despite the name, this is not an electrical company. Bozeman Electricians is a free quote-referral service, not an electrician or electrical contractor. It holds no Montana electrical license and does not perform electrical work. It is a free way for homeowners, landlords and renters in Bozeman, MT and the Gallatin Valley to describe an electrical problem or project once and hear back from independent electrical contractors licensed by the Montana State Electrical Board.

What this service is

A breaker that will not reset on a -20°F night, a panel with no room for a heat pump, a hot tub that needs a 240 V circuit: the first step is finding someone to look at it. Calling five companies and telling the same story five times is slow. This site shortens that step.

Fill in the quote form or call the local 406 number. Your request goes to independent electrical contractors who serve your part of Bozeman or the nearby towns. They contact you directly to ask questions, set up a visit and quote the job. The request is free, and you never have to hire anyone.

  • Free, no-obligation quote requests
  • Independent contractors who reply on their own schedules
  • Plain guides on Montana licensing, city and state permits, NorthWestern Energy rules and typical costs
  • A local 406 phone number

What this service is not

Not an electrician. Bozeman Electricians is a free quote-referral service, not an electrician or electrical contractor. It holds no Montana electrical license and does not perform electrical work. It does not plan, perform, supervise or warranty any electrical work, and it is not affiliated with any electrical company or with NorthWestern Energy. The word "Electricians" is part of the site's name, not a description of anything the site does.

Every diagnosis, repair, upgrade and permit is handled and priced by the independent contractor you choose. Those contractors are separate businesses, not employees or agents of this site. The site does not rank or endorse them, and it cannot promise that any one of them is licensed or insured. Montana requires a license; verify it yourself.

How the service is paid for

You pay nothing to use the site. Independent contractors may pay to receive quote requests or phone calls from it. That is how a referral service like this stays free for homeowners. It does not change what you should ask before hiring, and it does not mean this site has vetted any contractor.

How phone calls work

Calls to (406) 643-1006 go through a call-routing provider to an independent electrical contractor that serves the Bozeman area. The person who answers works for that contractor, not for this site. Ask for the business name and the Montana license number on the call, and check both before anyone comes out.

Before you hire anyone

  • Montana requires electricians and electrical contractors to be licensed by the State Electrical Board (MCA Title 37, ch. 68). Look up any contractor or electrician by name or license number in the Montana DLI license lookup, and ask to see the license; electricians must carry it on the job.
  • Ask for a certificate of liability insurance. The State Electrical Board requires licensed contractors to carry workers' compensation and unemployment insurance coverage (or hold an exemption); it does not set a liability insurance amount.
  • Get a written, itemized quote before work starts, and ask up front about any trip or diagnostic fee and after-hours rates.
  • Ask who pulls the permit, and whether it comes from the city or the state. Bozeman, Belgrade and Manhattan issue electrical permits inside city limits; everywhere else in the valley, including Livingston, Three Forks, Big Sky and Four Corners, permits come from the Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI electrical permits).
  • If the job touches the meter or service, ask whether any NorthWestern Energy service-upgrade charge is included in the quote.

The guide to checking an electrician's license in Montana walks through the DLI search, and why a local electrician matters covers the questions to ask on the first call. For typical price ranges, see the Bozeman electrician cost guide.

Where the service works

Bozeman, Montana is the hub, from Bon Ton and Cooper Park to the MSU area and the newer northwest subdivisions such as Baxter Meadows and Flanders Mill. Requests are also welcome from Belgrade, Livingston, Big Sky, Four Corners, Manhattan and Three Forks, plus Gallatin Gateway, Bridger Canyon, Amsterdam/Churchill, Logan and Clyde Park. The service areas page has the details.

For electrical contractors

Licensed Montana electrical contractors who serve the Gallatin Valley and want to receive quote requests can say so through the quote form. Choose "Other" and include your business name, Montana contractor license number and the towns you cover.

How this site handles information

  • Sources named. Prices come from published national cost guides, dated and labeled as estimates. Weather and housing facts name their source, such as NOAA normals or the Census ACS.
  • Rules, not legal advice. Licensing, permit and landlord sections are general information. Confirm anything important with the Montana Department of Labor & Industry, your city building division or an attorney.
  • Honest images. Images on this site are illustrations, not photos of any contractor's work.
